Little girl, 3, suffers 'potentially serious injuries' after being hit by van while out with her mum

A three-year-old girl suffered 'potentially serious injuries' after being hit by a van on a main road in Hindley. The child, understood to have been out with her mum, was struck by the vehicle on Market Street shortly after 1.30pm.

A huge emergency services presence attended, with the high street taped off in both directions. Police and paramedics worked at the scene as an air ambulance landed nearby.

The child, who witnesses saw being checked over as she sat on her mother's knee, was rushed to hospital from the scene. The North West Ambulance Service said she suffered 'potentially serious injuries' in the collision. They have since arrested a man on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and he remains in custody. Pictures from the scene showed a number of ambulances and police vehicles in attendance, as Market Street (A58) was cordoned off for a number of hours.
