A talented young Lanarkshire musician hit the high notes as he recorded an impressive double triumph at the Royal National Mod for a second successive year.

Under-13 competitor Alistair Adamson won both the Smith Mearns trophy for accordion and the Jenny MB Currie award for piano at the highly prestigious Gaelic cultural celebration.He made history by retaining the accordion title which he won last year on his debut in the competition.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Forth Primary pupil Alistair first began playing the accordion five years ago, and said he was “so shocked and surprised but really excited” to triumph once again this year.His double success in the two instrumental categories for 2023 followed his success at last year’s Mod in Perth, where he overcame illness on the day of the event to win.
