New figures reveal a huge rise in animals being left abandoned in Greater Manchester amid the cost-of-living crisis. In one shocking case, a pair of kittens were dropped in a park and left, while inside a box and a bin bag.

The RSPCA is 'desperately concerned' about the coming winter months after statistics showed a 45 per cent rise in the number of reports of animals being left stranded in our region this year compared with 2020.

The animal welfare charity is on course to receive 1,291 reports this year in Greater Manchester, figures reveal. Across England and Wales as a whole, the RSPCA has received 17,838 reports of abandoned animals up to the end of October.

If this continues, 21,417 reports are likely over 2023.
