Jemma Reekie insists she was “proud” of her Budapest performance after being edged out of a medal spot in her star-studded 800m World Championships final.Lining up in Sunday night’s showpiece, the Kilbarchan AAC talent knew she’d have to produce the performance of her career to make it onto the podium. The 25-year-old kept up with a lightning quick sub-one minute first lap and was well in with a shot as she sat third heading into the last 200m.But, in the end, it was Kenya’s Mary Moraa who added world gold to her Commonwealth title with a sensational 1:56.03, with English star Keely Hodgkinson claiming another silver after pipping defending USA champion Athing Mu to the line.Reekie – who ran an impressive 1:57.72 to finish fifth – proved she can mix it with the best and isn’t too far away from medalling ahead of the Paris Olympics next year. She said: “I am proud of the way I ran it.

I was brave and I went out, it was probably just a bit hot in the first lap.“I am proud of the way I ran this season. I went to Jon [Bigg, coach] in an absolute mess and our goal was always to run under two minutes again consistently.“To be here in the final is exciting for next year.” READ MORE: Don't miss the late st Renfrewshire headlines – sign up to our free daily newsletter here
