A drama about the five-year manhunt for Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe is launching on ITV. The Long Shadow will focus on the lives of the victims of the killer, as well as their families the officers who worked to capture him.
The series draws on the extensive archive of the investigation and is also based on Wicked Beyond Belief, Michael Bilton’s critically acclaimed account of the case, published by William Collins.
It's written by Hijack's George Kay and directed by Lewis Arnold, who was also behind the crime dramas Sherwood, Time and Des.
Its cast includes Harry Potter and Indiana Jones stay Toby Jones, Happy Valley's Catherine Kelly and former soap star Jill Halfpenny. Sutcliffe, an HGV driver, was convicted of killing thirteen women and attempting to murder seven others between 1975 and 1980.
