Tetley, 5, almost strangled herself to death after being abandoned - now she needs a home

A Staffordshire bull terrier was almost strangled to death after being tied up and abandoned in Yorkshire. The dog, called Tetley, has been permanently scarred from the deep lacerations she suffered to her neck after she was found tethered and struggling to breathe in the Firth Park area of Sheffield on June 1.

It’s thought the wounds have come from her desperate desire to free herself. Five-year-old Tetley was spotted by a passerby who took her to a local vet, and was eventually taken to the RSPCA’s Greater Manchester Animal Hospital in Weaste, Salford on June 5.

Three weeks later, she was transferred back to Yorkshire, where she is awaiting rehoming in Great Ayton. She added: “When she got excited or exercised she’d become breathless and she had to put in a lot of effort just to breathe, so we’ve had to keep her as calm as possible and take things very slowly. “She's had x-rays on her throat and thankfully there have been no bony changes and her breathing is almost back to normal now, although she will always have scars from the damage.” Tetley is said to be a loving and friendly dog who would prefer a quiet, adult-only environment.
