John Swinney blasts 'unhelpful' Stirling 'stabbing' rumours after Tommy Robinson tweet

First Minister John Swinney has issued a plea for the public to refrain from "unhelpful speculation" following the alleged stabbing of a 21-year-old woman in Stirling.The woman was taken to hospital with injuries considered "non-life threatening" after the alleged blade incident on Saturday.

A 29-year-old man was later arrested.Rumours appeared on social media on Saturday that there had been three stabbings by a man believed to be Muslim.

In an unusual move, Police Scotland issued a clarification stating the arrested individual is white and local to the area.This narrative, described by cops as "false", gained huge traction online after being shared by Tommy Robinson, founder of the EDL (English Defence League).The claim comes amidst tensions stirred by the recent tragic murders of three girls in in Southport, where Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, were killed.

Axel Muganwa Rudakubana, aged 17, has been charged with the murder of the youngsters.A statement from Police Scotland said: "We are aware of speculation and false information circulating on social media regarding this incident.
