SNP MP Joanna Cherry has claimed criticism of her views on “gender identity theory" by unnamed MP colleagues has been “homophobic”.Cherry also criticised SNP Cabinet Secretary Shona Robison and her party's deputy Westminster leader Mhairi Black for comments they made on trans-related issues. The Edinburgh South West MP issued the barbs during an interview at The Stand venue for the Edinburgh Fringe. Her event had originally been cancelled after staff protested about Cherry's views on gender recognition reform, but the venue later backed down. The KC has been a staunch critic of the SNP-led Government legislation on self-ID for trans people claiming it threatens the rights of women.Asked to provide an example of homophobia within the SNP, she said she had been asked to speak at an LGB Alliance event a couple of years ago:“A number of my [MP] colleagues harangued me and tried to prevent me from speaking at the conference and demanded that I have the whip removed.“They whipped up quite an atmosphere.”She said she would have taken the party to court for homophobia had she been prevented:“I did speak at the conference, but protesting outside that conference was a straight female MP.

A straight female MP protesting the right of lesbians to speak about their human rights. In twenty first century Britain? I found that really shocking.”She also criticised Robison, who piloted the gender reform Bill through Holyrood, who claimed there is no evidence abusive men “ever had to pretend” to be anything else to be abusive. She said: “There are men out there who insinuate themselves into situations where they have access to women and children, particularly vulnerable women and children, to abuse them.
