Kenny Miller has been left stunned after St Mirren saw their appeal against a red card shown to James Bolton in Wednesday's night's 2-0 victory against Dundee thrown out. With the Buddies a goal to the good, former Portsmouth centre back Bolton was sent off for a tackle on Dee full-back Owen Dodgson with six minutes remaining.

On-field referee Steven McLean opted to take no action against Bolton, but after consulting VAR and reviewing the incident on his monitor, then brandished the 29-year-old, who had already been booked, with a straight red card.Stephen Robinson's men went onto wrap the three points up in stoppage time with a second goal from Toyosi Olusanya but quickly launched an appeal against Bolton's dismissal on Thursday morning.

That appeal has been turned down by the league's governing body, with St Mirren now demanding "full clarification" on how the SPFL came to their final decision.Their statement read: "St Mirren FC can confirm that our appeal of James Bolton’s red card has been dismissed and James will miss the next two matches."Clearly we are hugely disappointed by this.

We will be seeking full clarification on the process that reached this decision"24 hours earlier, Rangers defender Dujon Sterling was also given his marching orders by VAR in the closing stages of his team's 2-1 win against Aberdeen for a challenge on Jack MacKenzie.
