Viewers of the ITV soap were warned of upsetting scenes before Wednesday night's episode (March 22) as Evelyn Plummer was forced to have her beloved greyhound Cerberus put to sleep after he fell seriously ill.
Earlier this week fans saw Evelyn, played by Maureen Lipman, pay Roy Cropper a visit in the cafe with her trusted Cerberus in tow.
Roy was left apologising for missing Evelyn's birthday party and opened up to her about Carla Connor's recent problems which have seen her leave Weatherfield after fearing her psychosis returned, not knowing she is being drugged with LSD by Stephen Reid.
The pair chatted for a while before Evelyn decided to leave, calling Cerberus from behind the Roys Rolls counter. Later, at home with Fiz Stape, Evelyn appeared concerned when her beloved pooch showed no interest in his tea.
