Emily Longeretta The holiday seasons are officially underway, according to the TV movie calendar. While Great American Family kicked off their holiday slate on Oct.

13, Hallmark follows close behind with their “Countdown to Christmas” beginning on Oct. 20 while Lifetime’s slate starts on Nov.

18. This year, there are collectively fewer new holiday movies coming to the small screen. The change isn’t due to the ongoing SAG strike (or the WGA strike, which took place from May 2 to Sept.

27) — most of the movies were filmed before the strikes began or under a different contract. “Christmas is a year-round business at Hallmark, so we were able to mitigate early in the year understanding that the strikes were unfortunately imminent,” Lisa Hamilton Daly, EVP of programming at Hallmark Media, told Variety. “We’re grateful to meet all our goals for a full, all-new holiday slate and to bring our viewers the content they love most to celebrate the season.” Last year, more than 140 new holiday movies aired, while this year sees just over 100 (although this list could grow, as some opt to announce closer to the air date).
