Every local authority in Greater Manchester has agreed to raise council tax by the maximum level of 4.99 per cent. On top of this, the part of the council tax bill that goes towards police and fire services - which Andy Burnham is responsible for - will also go up from April.

The mayor's precept will increase by £5 for Band D properties, all of which will go towards Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, while the rate for ‘other Mayoral general functions’ has been frozen.
