Council tax will increase by more than 5 per cent in every part of Greater Manchester from April. All 10 councils in the city-region have set their rate for the next financial year with many still having to make cuts in spending to balance the budget on top of the tax hike.
Every local authority in Greater Manchester has agreed to raise council tax by the maximum level of 4.99 per cent. On top of this, the part of the council tax bill that goes towards police and fire services - which Andy Burnham is responsible for - will also go up from April.
The mayor's precept will increase by £5 for Band D properties, all of which will go towards Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, while the rate for ‘other Mayoral general functions’ has been frozen.
