'I'm a psychologist - here's what your doughnut choice says about you'

Your favourite doughnut reveals a lot about your personality type, according to experts. A psychologist has said the relationship you have with your go-to leavened fried dough can say a lot about your social behaviours - down to whether you're a traditionalist or a party animal.

Behavioural expert Jo Hemmings has said our choice of sweet treat can reflect a lot about our personality traits as new figures show the classic jam-filled doughnut was the most popular choice by doughnut eaters.

The research by Compare the Market surveyed 2,000 examined the nation's sweet treat habits, with custard doughnuts (35%) and chocolate (22%) the next favourites after jam (51%). She said: “When it comes to sweet food, whether we see it as an occasional treat or an everyday must, our personality traits are reflected not just in the taste of the food, but the appearance, the smell and that first bite melt-in-the mouth moment. “Our preferences are also shaped by our childhood experiences - where sweet food was often a treat or associated with birthday parties and other social events. “So those that like the more playful doughnuts, like sprinkles or a full, non-ring doughnut, often are the most playful of all, even in adulthood.” Hemmings said the more reserved among us tend to stick to the enduringly popular choices of a glazed, jam or ring doughnut. “These personality types generally enjoy being
