Hollyoaks ’ replacement on Channel 4’s weekday schedule has been revealed - after it emerged the show was to become the UK's first digital-first soap.
The Chester-based soap, which recently lost out to EastEnders at the NTAs, will now be aired on E4 in a bid to reach the younger demographic, station bosses announced last week.
It will also be shown on YouTube, as Channel 4 aims to use streaming services to maximise viewership. It has now been confirmed that The Simpsons will take the soap's 6.30pm slot from 25 September. The hit American comedy’s old 6pm slot will be taken by B&B reality show Four in a Bed.
Hollyoaks will continue to air weeknights at 7pm on E4 - with 'first-look' episodes landing on Channel 4's on-demand service the previous day at 7.30pm.The episodes will then be available a week later on YouTube - while there will still be a weekly omnibus on Channel 4, airing on Sundays. The schedule shake-up was announced after it emerged that almost two-thirds of the soap’s’ viewers watched it through ‘first look’ streaming or on E4.
