A Greater Manchester school has been forced to close this morning 'due to a lack of heating or hot water'. Glyn Potts, headteacher at Newman RC College in Oldham, took to twitter on Monday morning (December 4) to share the news.

In a video he said it was with 'regret' that the school had to close after a radiator leak over the weekend had left the building without essential heating facilities.

He added that the college is a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) school - meaning they do not control the building themselves - and confirmed that pupils have been asked to return home. READ MORE: Could Chanel's catwalk tent stay?

"Over the weekend a radiator has leaked, which has meant that the pressure within the boiler system has dropped and the building owners have been unable to rectify that to such an extent that heating and hot water are no longer available to us in the building. "I realise this will be a great sense of frustration to parents, but unfortunately we were in the hands of their opinion and their contractual requirements to fix the problem within a timeframe, and at 8:30, with them being unable to give the assurances we need, I've had to take the decision to ask for students to return home. "We're in the process of doing so and we will do so safely.
