Two Greater Manchester boroughs to have cherished community assets saved in £25m pledge

Four North West-based community projects have been awarded more than £1.2 million of government funding aimed at saving community assets.

Pubs, museums, cinemas and historic buildings will be kept alive by the funding announced on Friday (December 22). In total, £25 million has been allocated to 72 projects across the UK, although only four of the projects are based in the North West region.

Three are located in Greater Manchester, equalling just over four per cent of the overall funding package. The move is part of the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities' (DLUHC) Community Ownership Fund, which aims to ensure that people across the UK can support and continue benefiting from cherished local institutions whose future may be in doubt.

In Greater Manchester, a hall in Ramsbottom, bowling club in Whitefield and Wigan heritage trust will benefit.
