Victims of a sudden spate of devastating car crime have spoken of their anger as police step up patrols. Residents in Westhoughton, Bolton, say the town has been gripped by a recent surge in break-ins and vandal attacks at a number of different sites in the centre.
One victim, a 57-year-old woman, claimed more than 20 cars have been targeted in total and, in one case, all four tyres of a car were slashed by yobs who went on to pour oil over the seats inside, smash the front windscreen and scratch graffiti into the paintwork.
There have been calls for a public meeting and questions are being asked over the town's main CCTV system. READ MORE: Join the FREE Manchester Evening News WhatsApp community Greater Manchester Police said officers were called on Sunday night to 'several reports of vehicles being found damaged' and as a result, police patrols are being stepped up.
Chief Inspector Justine Topping said local officers were 'following up a number of lines of enquiry' and appealed to anyone with information to come forward. .
