Passengers at Birmingham Airport expressed anger after being forced to wait in long queues at 5am. Tourists claimed they were "kettled in" as pictures emerged of long lines of people waiting to check-in for departures on the morning of July 31.BHX reiterated that traveller should come prepared for their holidays, but admitted: "We are a building site right now."They also said they had provided alternative walking routes for customers as well as an overflow marquee.

Holidaymakers took to social media to complain about long lines at the airport, Birmingham Live reports. Belfast-bound Zahid Hussain described manic scenes as it took him two hours to clear security.He said: "It was chaos this morning at 5am.

Fast track was absolutely useless and everyone was kettled in."Dacey Bacha added: "What chaos on departures." Birmingham Airport is set to open a band new security hall which will be operational by June 2024.

The scheme will see a next-generation security facility built - hopefully speeding up departure times for years to come. A BHX spokesperson said: "This morning, July 31, was busy as we continue to serve customers throughout the summer holidays.
