Lewis Macleod admits it "feels good to be back" at Rangers this week after sealing an emotional return to his boyhood heroes in a coaching capacity. The talented midfielder, who is only 29 and was forced to retire in 2022 due to injury, came through the club's academy as a youngster so knows just what it takes to work his way up to the first team in Govan. And he is now looking forward to working with the Ibrox club's youth academy as an under-14s coach.Having joined the club as a 10-year-old, Newmains ace Macleod made his first team debut in July 2012 under Ally McCoist.

Frequent injuries disrupted his initial spell in the first team but he did eventually feature regulalrly in the first team until sealing a move to Brentford in 2015.

He went on to play for Wigan and Plymouth Argyle, where a nasty knee ligament injury and unsuccessful rehab would eventually cut short his career. Now the former Coltness High School pupil is looking forward to the next chapter of his career in familiar surroundings.Speaking to the Rangers website, Macleod said: “It feels really good to be back.“You obviously need to change your mindset from being a player to a coach but from the moment I came back through the door everyone has welcomed me.“I’m really enjoying this side of football.“I’m part-time with the 14s, we train three times a week and have a game at the weekend - usually on a Sunday.“I am focused on that age group but if I am needed elsewhere I am happy to help out and I’m enjoying every minute of it.“The standards are high around the place and the facilities are great.I’ve come back and it’s great to see a few old faces.
