Fire crews race to Edinburgh flat blaze as two rushed to hospital for treatment

Fire crews have raced to a blaze at a flat in Edinburgh this afternoon. Emergency services were called to Trafalgar Street in the north of the capital after the alarm was raised at around 1.30pm on Sunday.

Ambulance crews attended and a male and female were taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. A picture shared with Edinburgh Live showed smoke billowing from a window of the affected property.

Three fire engines rushed to the scene from nearby stations as the building was evacuated. The cause of the fire is currently unknown but firefighters left the scene at around 3.50pm.

The condition of the two casualties is not known, but it's understood they were taken to hospital "as a precaution".A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "At around 1.28pm we were called to an incident at a dwelling in a block of flats on Trafalgar Street."Three appliances attended the scene with three pumps and one high-reach appliance from McDonald Road, Crewe Toll and Marionville Road."There was one male casualty and one female casualty who were both taken to hospital for precautionary checks."
