Adam Thomas has revealed that he has been in pain “every day” for over two years due to rheumatoid arthritis. The Emmerdale actor, who also appeared on Strictly, opened up about his arthritis journey in an emotional post as he explained that he has “never been pain free” as a result of his diagnosis and added that he he is coming off his latest medication because of the side effects. “My arthritis journey … So for those of you that know, I’ve been on my methotrexate injections for quite some time and the side effects were just too much for me, I’ve had enough so I’ve decided to come off them…,” he wrote. “I’ve been off them now for 5 weeks or so and not been on anything and the pain has definitely increased, finding it hard to walk again, especially in the morning and my wrists and fingers are just as bad if not worse!

I’ve been taking a lot of pain killers to get me through and they have helped ease the pain where am able to train but the next day my body is just in bits.” As a result of the side effects, 36 year old Adam added that he will now try another type of medication, this time sulfasalazine tablets, to attempt to reduce the pain.

Despite what he had been through, the actor revealed that he was trying to “stay positive”. Having appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2023, the Waterloo Road star admitted that it was during his time on the show that he felt less pain as he took steroid injections - which can be used to treat rheumatoid arthritis.
