Coronation Street 'in crisis' says soap icon despite claims he's returning

Corrie legend Sean Wilson has opened up about the declining viewership of the ITV soap in recent years following his departure from Weatherfield nearly two decades ago.The 59 year old actor, who was known for his portrayal of Martin Platt from 1985 to 2005, and again briefly in 2018, believes the falling ratings stem from the writers' attempts to 'solve the world's issues' rather than focusing on entertainment.

Sean observed: "I think the world of soaps is a different vehicle nowadays. I think I was part of the British soap industry at the best time, the halcyon years when there were 18 or 21 million people watching it."
