Coronation Street fans have criticised a "pathetic" plot blunder as Stephen Reid failed to kill off his partner Elaine Jones.

The shady businessman had villainous plans to bump off oblivious Elaine, who he'd taken a life insurance plan out on, and use the money to pay Carla Connor for her share of the factory.

His dastardly plot involved replacing Elaine's (Paula Wilcox) blood pressure pills with caffeine tablets, but Corrie fans were unconvinced by some of the details of the storyline.

In Wednesday's episode of the ITV soap, viewers saw Elaine become dizzy and fall to the ground, hitting her head on the table which Stephen (Todd Boyce) hoped would have killed her off, ready for his insurance claim.
