Celine Dion couldn't contain her happiness after delivering an emotional performance to mark her comeback to the stage, singing at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, which was hit with production problems amid bad weather.

At 56 years old, the iconic Canadian songstress powerfully performed Edith Piaf's classic, L'Hymne A L'Amour, from the heart of the Eiffel Tower on Friday, in the midst of her ongoing battle with stiff person syndrome (SPS), having said she didn't know if she could sing again.

Our hearts went out to Celine back in 2021 when she had to cancel her Las Vegas shows due to health issues, which was followed by revealing her diagnosis with SPS in December 2022 and subsequent cancellation of her Courage World Tour.

Being away from the limelight since then, Celine finally reconnected with her audience.Taking to Instagram, she expressed her gratitude with a four-word statement, saying she was "so full of joy." In full, she said: "I'm honoured to have performed tonight, for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favourite cities!" She shared a touch of love for all the athletes: "Most of all, I'm so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance." Celebrating the athletes' journey, she continued: "All of you have been so focused on your dream, and whether or not you take home a medal, I hope that being here means that it has come true for you!" "To every competitor, your efforts are seen: You should all be so proud, we know how hard you have worked to be the best of the best.
