A coin collector has sold a rare Brexit 50p coin for an eye watering £10,000 on eBay. The coin was struck in 2020 to mark the the UK's exit from the EU.
The seller, from Glasgow, sold the special edition coin on the online platform on February 6, cashing in thousands of pounds for it, Glasgow Live reports.
Described as being a 'very rare find' by the seller, the coin was launched on the date of Brexit on January 31, 2020, and features the words "Peace, Prosperity and Friendship With All Nations" on its reverse side. Coin Checker said: "On the 31st January 2020 the United Kingdom left the European Union – over three and half years after the Vote. "This departure is possibly one of the most historically significant events to happen in modern history and to commemorate this day, The Royal Mint issued this Withdrawal from the European Union 50p.
