Banksy 'girl with balloon' artwork stolen as cops charge two men with burglary

Two men who allegedly snatched a Banksy painting have been charged with burglary. Larry Fraser, 47, and James Love, 53, have been charged with burglary after the iconic painting was stolen from a gallery in London on Sunday, September 8, the Metropolitan Police said.

This follows a probe by detectives from the Met’s Flying Squad, reports the Mirror. Fraser, of Evelyn Denington Road, Beckton, east London, and Love, of Elvin Drive, North Stifford, appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Thursday, September 12, where they were bailed to next appear at Kingston Crown Court on Wednesday, October 9.The investigation was launched after a burglary at a gallery in New Cavendish Street, W1 at around 11pm on Sunday night.

A Banksy painting entitled 'Girl with balloon' was the only item stolen, but it has now been recovered and will be returned to the gallery.Last month, art by the Bristol-based creator appeared in places all over London in the space of eight days, with one new piece popping up every day from August 5.

Banksy subsequently confirmed the works were his when he began to upload photos of artwork depicting different types of animals to his Instagram.The first item was of a goat with rocks falling down below it and a CCTV camera pointed at it which was situated on a building near Kew Bridge in southwest London.
