Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho is eyeing a swift return to action after withdrawing from Argentina's squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia.

The 20-year-old was named in Lionel Scaloni's squad for this month's World Cup qualifiers and was due to link up with his Argentina team-mates in Miami on Monday, but declared himself unavailable for selection less than 24 hours after United's 0-0 draw with Aston Villa on Sunday.

It is understood that Garnacho had been nursing a knee injury in United's recent outings against FC Porto and Villa, indicated by the strapping that was spotted on his left knee at Villa Park on Sunday. "I had knee problems in the last two games and I won't be able to be with the national team," wrote Garnacho on Instagram on Monday afternoon. "But I hope to recover so I can be on the next date." After the international break, United face games against Brentford, Fenerbahce, West Ham United and Leicester City before Chelsea, PAOK and Leicester City travel to Old Trafford at the start of November.

The Manchester Evening News understands Garnacho is likely to be available for the Brentford clash. Meanwhile, Harry Maguire went off injured at half-time of the draw at Villa Park and left the stadium in a protective boot, but the centre-back hadn't been named in the England squad.
