Thousands of teenagers across the country will find out if they have received the grades that will secure them a spot at a university on Thursday.

However not everyone sitting their A levels will achieve the grades they needed to make their chosen courses. Students may also change their mind on where they wish to attend, or get better grades than anticipated, and may want to look at what other university spaces are available.

Those students can enter Clearing, a nationwide system from the University and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), where students can apply for courses that are still available, allowing students to find the course they wanted at another university, or if they have changed their mind, find the course they now wish to take on. Manchester Metropolitan University, whose clearing phone lines open 8am on Thursday, provided some tips for those who find themselves looking at the Clearing portal.
