A young driver who used roads as a 'race track' has died in a horror high-speed crash. Tributes have been paid to Zac Fox, 20, who was nearly twice the drink-drive limit when he lost control of his mum's Seat Ibiza as he hit speeds of 90mph.

A FAI into his death in Stoke heard he had taken the car without his mum's permission before he and a pal went out drinking on the evening of April 27 last year.Zac, who paralysed his right hand in a motorbike crash in 2019, was travelling at more than 90mph in a 40mph zone when he hit a stone wall with the vehicle landing on its roof, StokeOnTrent Live reports.

The pair were not wearing seatbelts and despite the best efforts of an off-duty police officer, Zac was pronounced dead at the scene.

Last night his mum Lisa Fox described Zac as a 'lovely lad who always tried to help others'. The inquest heard that on the evening of his death his mum went out and hid the key to her Seat Ibiza under her pillow as he had previously taken the car out without her permission.Lisa was on her way home at about 9.15pm when she saw flashing blue lights and had a 'gut feeling' it was Zac.
