A mum ordered to pay compensation on her son's behalf following his shocking behaviour as violent disorder broke out in Greater Manchester told him: "You will be paying it back." The 13-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was involved in the trouble outside a hotel in Newton Heath where asylum seekers were believed to have been housed.
He was one of a large group of adults and other children. Missiles were thrown at the hotel on police during the incident on July 31.
It came amid misinformation spread online following the deaths of three young girls in Southport. On Tuesday (September 17), Manchester Magistrates' Court, sitting as a youth court, heard the cases of two more children involved.
Peter Williams, prosecuting, said a 'hostile crowd' gathered, with eggs, bottles and bricks thrown. READ MORE: Section of M62 will be closed from Friday night to Monday The 13-year-old boy was seen goading officers, trying to grab their hats and 'interrogating them', before throwing an egg at the hotel. "It was a difficult position for the police to deal with," Mr Williams added. "At one stage the police had to escort asylum seekers into the hotel.
