Work vans stolen from in Ayr blitz as crooks rip into Ford Transit motors before making off with tools

Cops have stepped up patrols after a spate of further work van thefts during an overnight blitz in Ayr. Tools worth of thousands of pounds have been stolen from a local joiners as crooks swooped on residential streets.

Police are treating the latest wave of incidents as linked as they launched a probe into the thefts.A van belonging to Adam McLaughlin Joinery was hit on Wednesday night and it's understood another Ayr joinery business was left counting the cost this morning.

The motor belongs to one of the joiners at the Ayr firm, and was swooped on whilst it sat parked on Alder Bank.Pictures provided by the firm show how crooks have ripped the side of the van off to gain access.

It's understood they are then able to disconnect the lock mechanism and access the side door. A spokesperson for Adam McLaughlin Joinery told how brazen thieves were in and out in four minutes, as they made off with an estimated £8,000 worth of tools.It comes after a spate of van thefts in the area last month, with raids taking place in nearby Forehill.
