Jennifer Maas TV Business Writer Warner Bros. Games has acquired Player First Games, the developer of the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned video game company’s new free-to-play platform fighter game “MultiVersus.” Per WBD, Player First Games will continue to be run by co-founders Tony Huynh, head of Player First Games, and Chris White, head of technology, will now report to Carlos Barbosa, vice president and studio head of Warner Bros.
Games San Diego. Developed by Player First Games with Warner Bros. Games San Diego offering production support and live management, “MultiVersus” features an ever-expanding roster of popular characters based on Warner Bros.
Discovery franchises. The game launched wide on May 28 and is available now on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One consoles and PC.
The acquisition comes following months of layoffs and studio closers across the gaming industry, with companies including Microsoft’s Xbox, Sony’s PlayStation, EA, Take-Two Interactive, Riot Games, and more being impacted. “We have worked with Player First Games over several years to create and launch ‘MultiVersus,’ and we are very pleased to welcome this talented team to Warner Bros.
