They were two 11-year-old boys enjoying a day of fun together. But for John Greenwood and Gary Miller, an adventure to the tip turned into a nightmare.
The boys were found dead by a dog walker after being brutally beaten, before being discarded under a mattress in Whiston, Merseyside.
To this day, no-one has ever been convicted of their murder. Their families are still fighting for justice in their name, 44 years after they were found dead, the Liverpool Echo reports.
On August 16, 1980, the boys were rushed to Whiston Hospital but died from their injuries. John and Gary had spent the day together, and John had eaten dinner Gary's house in Raleigh Avenue.
