A walker was rescued after getting 'stranded in the dark' on Saddleworth Moor. Police and mountain rescuers escorted the walker to safety after they got lost near Birchen Clough in Chew Valley on Friday night.

In a post on Facebook, police thanked Oldham Mountain Rescue Team for coming to the experienced walker's aid 'within minutes'.

A spokesperson for GMP Oldham said: "Many thanks to Oldham Mountain Rescue Team who deployed within minutes to assist police with a walker stranded in the dark near Birchen Clough on Saddleworth Moor. OMRT are a vital part of the emergency services team in our area and are all unpaid volunteers who deploy 365 days of the year. "The walker was experienced and had decent equipment yet still struggled in the failing light.
