Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust (GMMH) is at the centre of swirling turmoil. The Manchester Evening News has spent years reporting deaths of patients which have shown GMMH wrongdoing in coroners' courts. The documentary focused on the inpatient facility, the Edenfield Centre, on the site of the former Prestwich Hospital. Numerous investigations - police, independent and internal - sprang up, uncovering sweeping concerns about the trust’s culture and the fundamental safety of its users.

In April, GMMH’s chief executive officer announced his resignation as he claimed the trust is on the road to recovery, amid national intervention from the NHS which plunged the huge mental health provider into the equivalent of special measures.
