Two women have been arrested after allegedly trying to climb over safety barriers at King Charles' Scottish Coronation in Edinburgh today.

Police Scotland confirmed the pair, aged 20 and 21, have been arrested for breach of the peace at the Royal Mile in Edinburgh this afternoon, Wednesday, July 5.

The women are believed to be activists for the climate group This Is Rigged.Crowds gathered in the capital city today, waving Union Jack and Scotland flags, to greet the royals as a procession made its way through the city ahead of this afternoon's ceremony.King Charles smiled and wife Camilla waved as the crowds as they passed, and their vehicle was followed by one carrying Prince William and Princess Kate to the Thanksgiving Ceremony.However, anti-monarchy protesters from various organisations were also in attendance.A spokesperson for the force said said: "Two women – aged 20 and 21 - have been arrested in connection with a breach of the peace after allegedly attempting to climb over a crowd safety barrier on the Royal Mile, Edinburgh."Our priority is public safety, balanced against people’s rights."
