The ‘other Prince William’ may be unfamiliar to those born after his death on August 28, 1972. But for royal watchers who know a thing or two about the family tree, Prince William Henry Andrew Frederick was well known for his love of action packed activities and dare devil antics such as flying and ballooning.

He is also remembered for his shocking death 51 years ago, as reports the Mirror, and the impact he had on his second cousin Charles.

The now King Charles admired William so much, he named his first born son and heir to the throne after him. If he were still alive today, he’d be the current Duke of Gloucester, due to the fact he was a grandson of King George V, King George VI’s nephew, and the cousin of the late Queen and Princess Margaret.Born in Barnet, Hertfordshire on December 18, 1941, he was the son of Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester and Alice, Duchess of Gloucester.

Educated at Wellesley Prep School, Eton College, and Magdalene College, Cambridge, the other William spent a further year at Stanford University in California studying political science, American history and business.He then went to work for the Commonwealth Office, moving to Lagos as third secretary of the British High Commission in 1965.
