Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.

Prince William left his late mother Princess Diana in tears after he made her a heartfelt promise a year before she died.The Prince of Wales, who was just 14 at the time, vowed to ensure his beloved mother would get her title back some day when he became King.The former Princess of Wales was stripped of her 'Her Royal Highness' title following her divorce to the then Prince Charles.After Charles and Diana tied the knot in a fairytale wedding at St Paul's Cathedral in 1981, the late princess became HRH The Princess of Wales, the Mirror reports.However, in 1996, almost a year after she famously said during her tell-all BBC Panorama interview that there were "three of us" in her marriage, in reference to her husband's affair with Camilla, the pair officially divorced.From there after, Diana lost her HRH title after Charles insisted they were removed despite the Queen being happy for the late princess to keep them as the mother of the future King.
