A tornado warning has been issued for part of the UK as Met Office rain and wind alerts come into force today. Forecasters at the Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (TORRO) said that tornados, 'misocyclones' and a 'low-topped supercell or two' were all on the cards overnight last night and into today (Thursday), the Mirror reports.

The areas covered by the tornado warning include central England, the Midlands, East Anglia and the South East. Forecasters predict there may also be strong gusts in Wales.

Met Office yellow weather warnings for wind and rain are also in force for these areas today. Join our WhatsApp Top Stories and Breaking News group by clicking this link. The Torro forecast said: "A cold front will cross the area overnight and on Thursday, with one or more waves developing along it, in response to an upper short-wave trough.

Several areas of precipitation should accompany this, with some embedded convection possible. "This may organise into one or more lines, and perhaps some cellular activity too.
