Three thousand revellers enjoy New Year’s Day street party in Pitlochry

The New Year’s Day street party in Pitlochry attracted around 3000 daylight dancers and revellers cramming into hotels and guest houses.Entertainment was provided by Eddie Rose and, acting as MC and providing entertainment for the children, was Highland Perthshire clown, Silly McB – Martin Bingham.The splendid sounds of the Vale of Atholl Pipe Band ensured that the cultural set-piece of the area, a marching band of pipes and drums, was the centre piece of an enjoyable party.North Angus SAS First Aid team were in attendance to ensure everyone was safe.Despite the slushy underfoot conditions, there were no injuries.Considerable snowfall the night before gave local residents quite a task to be ready to welcome the throng of visitors at 1pm on Sunday.Many locals came out on the morning of the event to shovel snow and put up bunting.There was also the task of selling and folding hundreds of raffle tickets.The raffle plays a big role in paving the way for future events as the proceeds help pay for the next party as well as raising cash for local community groups.David Watters, Cathy Joss, Alistair Dickson, Graeme Holmes and Iain Walker are the committee who make it all happen.David told the PA how much everyone appreciated the help given by locals and especially by a couple of holidaymakers who came forward to lend a hand.Derek and Michelle Crowe from near St Abbs, Berwickshire had visited Pitlochry many times and, after seeing the request for volunteers on Facebook, offered to assist.“I helped with the bunting and preparations for raffle, then collected the street cones after the event,” explained Michelle (49).“Derek helped clear the snow and ice to allow the stage trailer to be sited and make the road/pavements safe for the
