Students were targeted by thieves using a cruel distraction technique during a month-long crime spree. Ion Anghel, 31, approached unsuspecting victims who had left their mobile phones on the table in cafes or pubs.
Holding a leaflet, Anghel pretended he was offering them a discount on meals while stealing the distracted victim’s property.
A second thief, Alexandru Rostas, 22, joined in when three victims were targeted in one day. Anghel struck eight times between June and July this summer, Manchester Crown Court heard.
