Stirling Albion boss Darren Young was left brimming with pride after his side took Premiership giants Aberdeen all the way in the Viaplay Cup on Friday night. In front of a bumper crowd of almost 3,000 crammed into Forthbank under the lights, the Binos more than matched the Dons throughout a tight 90 minutes – but looked as if they had run out of steam after Leighton Clarkson’s second-half strike added to Bojan Miovski’s opener. But the home side rallied valiantly, with sub Greig Spence heading home a response before Stirling piled on the pressure in the search for a sensational equaliser. The Albion gaffer hailed his side’s performance as “outstanding” and also blasted referee David Munro for not awarding a stoppage-time spot kick after Ross Davidson was brought down by Shayden Morris.Young said: “I think we deserved an equaliser to be honest, I know we’ve had to hold and defend our box very well but it was an outstanding performance and we were the team in the ascendancy in the last 10-15 minutes.“We’ve always said about it being a squad game and the subs really came on and played their part and the guys on the park fought manfully to keep their players quiet.“The never-say-die attitude and the desire to keep fighting, scrapping for every ball was clear and we think we should have had a stonewall penalty at the end.“We passed it better and did well on the counter as well.

The fitness levels of the players are absolutely brilliant, you can’t ask for any more from these guys, week in, week out.” See Friday’s Observer for full coverage and reaction to Tuesday's Falkirk match.
