Star Wars‘ Andor series on Disney+ was meant to include the franchise’s first ever F-bomb.
While the swear word was ultimately cut from the episode in question, director Benjamin Caron and showrunner Tony Gilroy, were so passionate about including it that they went to drastic measures to convince Disney not to cut it out and reveal why including it was important. Keep reading to find out more… The f-bomb word was meant to be featured in the episode that feature Maarva Andor’s (played by Fiona Shaw) funeral.
During the scene of her funeral, Maarva appears in a holographic message to the Ferrix people, where she was meant to say “F*** the Empire”, but it was changed to “Fight the Empire” instead. “But Disney wouldn’t let us use it,” Benjamin recalled while talking with Variety about the episode. “So we changed it to ‘fight the empire.’ I remember having a call with Tony Gilroy saying, ‘Are we gonna get away with this?’” Tony then said that he went and “wrote a legal brief for it.
I wrote a memo on it and said, ‘Here’s why I think it’s economically prudent, and here’s why I think it’s good.’” Including the F-bomb was an integral part of that piece of the story, they said, because on top of just the message, was “Cassian’s journey in the middle of it.
