Emergency services were scrambled to Rivington after a 64-year-old man was reported missing. Police, paramedics and mountain rescue teams attended the beauty spot on Wednesday afternoon (June 28).

United Utilities and Lancashire Police called the Bolton Mountain Rescue teams for assistance in the search for the man who had become separated from an organised walking group in the area.

There was growing concern for the welfare of the missing man who was 'suffering from a medical condition' as 23 team members attended to conduct the major search. The man was later located near to Lead Mine Clough after he had fallen over earlier in the day and was suffering from mild hypothermia.

He was rushed to hospital for treatment from the scene. A statement shared by Bolton Mountain Rescue said: "At 15.24 on Wednesday afternoon the team was contacted first by United Utilities staff, and shortly after by Lancashire Constabulary, to request our assistance in the search for a missing 64-year-old man believed to be in the Rivington area. "The missing man was reported to be suffering from a medical condition, which gave cause for concern.
