Six Brits killed in Hamas attack in Israel and 10 more missing says PM Rishi Sunak

Six Brits were killed in Hamas’s attack on Israel and a further 10 are missing, Rishi Sunak has announced to MPs. The Prime Minister said in a statement in the House of Commons on Monday that the “terrible nature" of the attacks, which unfolded on October 7, meant it had been difficult to identify many of the deceased - but at least six Brits have been killed.

Of the further 10 missing, he said some are feared to be among the dead as the UK works with Israel to establish the facts and support the families through their “unimaginable pain”.

More than 1,400 Israelis have died, while the country’s military said that at least 199 hostages had been taken to Gaza. Mr Sunak told MPs that more than 3,500 people have also been wounded and that eight flights so far have brought back 500 British nationals from Israel, with more leaving in the coming hours. Mr Sunak also recognised that the Palestinian people are “victims of Hamas too” as he announced an extra £10 million of aid funding.

Announcing the new aid funding, Mr Sunak said: “An acute humanitarian crisis is unfolding to which we must respond, we must support, because they are victims of Hamas too.” The PM said the UK would continue to press Israel to “take every possible precaution to avoid harming civilians”, with more than 2,750 Palestinians reported to have been killed and 9,700 wounded since the fighting erupted.
