An open letter Sinead O'Connor sent to Miley Cyrus when she was a budding musician has gone viral in the wake of her death aged 56.

Miley had risen to fame on Hannah Montana and was busy carving out a career in the music industry when the legendary Irish singer reached out to her in a bid to warn her of the pitfalls of fame and exploitation.Sinead was found 'unresponsive' at her home in east London on Wednesday morning (July 26) and since then, floods of tributes have been paid to the outspoken star, who never held back on voicing her opinions.

Miley had just released the controversial video for her song Wrecking Ball, which featured her naked apart from a pair of boots.Sinead said at the time she'd been contacted by media outlets for her comment on comparisons made between her and the We Can't Stop singer, so she decided to write to her instead in an open letter she published on her website.

Cyrus then mocked the letter on Twitter and compared the Nothing Compares 2 U singer to troubled US actress Amanda Bynes.Sinéad wrote: "Dear Miley, I wasn't going to write this letter, but today I've been dodging phone calls from various newspapers who wished me to remark upon your having said in Rolling Stone your Wrecking Ball video was designed to be similar to the one for Nothing Compares … So this is what I need to say … And it is said in the spirit of motherliness and with love."I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way 'cool' to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos.
