to serial killers (“Prodigal Son”), and now the Welsh star will play the disgraced British royal. The series will dramatize Andrew’s infamous “Newsnight” interview with Emily Maitlis (played by Ruth Wilson of “The Affair”).

Per Prime Video’s description, “One night. One hour. One interview that sent shockwaves around the globe. Based on the real-life 2019 interview between Emily Maitlis and Prince Andrew over the scandalous accusations he faced regarding his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Giuffre.”The official plot summary continued, “ ‘A Very Royal Scandal’ follows the action of Maitlis and Prince Andrew in the lead-up to the interview, the ground-breaking event itself and the many questions left in its wake that would change their lives forever.”During the interview, the BBC anchor and her team pressed the Duke of York, 64, about his alleged relationship with convicted sex offender Epstein (who died of suicide earlier that year). She also pressed Andrew about Giuffre’s sex abuse allegations, which he denied (and in 2022, they settled her lawsuit out of court).

At the time, Andrew defended his choice to stay in a convicted sex offender’s home when he visited New York because he famously – and bizarrely – said that Epstein’s digs were “a convenient place to stay.”The disastrous interview led to Andrew getting fired from official royal duties by his mom, Queen Elizabeth. “It was a devastating moment for both of them.

His reputation is in tatters,” a source told the Sun at the time, referring to the overwhelming backlash. The interview was also dramatized in the April Netflix movie “Scoop,” starring Rufus Sewell as Andrew and Gillian Anderson as Maitlis.
