Ryan Giggs' case was back in court ahead of a scheduled trial next month. The former Manchester United star did not attend the hearing at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday morning, as his attendance had been excused.

Administrative matters, which cannot be reported ahead of the scheduled trial, were discussed during the two hour hearing. Mr Giggs, 49, is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Kate Greville, occasioning actual bodily harm, and of assaulting her sister Emma, an alleged offence of common assault, during an incident at his home in Worsley on November 1, 2020. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Judge Hilary Manley scheduled a further hearing ahead of the trial, to take place on July 6.

The prosecution was represented by Peter Wright KC, and the defence by Chris Daw KC. The trial is scheduled to begin on July 31.
