Ryan Giggs case back in court ahead of scheduled trial next month

Ryan Giggs' case was back in court ahead of a scheduled trial next month. The former Manchester United star did not attend the hearing at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday morning, as his attendance had been excused.

Administrative matters, which cannot be reported ahead of the scheduled trial, were discussed during the two hour hearing. Mr Giggs, 49, is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Kate Greville, occasioning actual bodily harm, and of assaulting her sister Emma, an alleged offence of common assault, during an incident at his home in Worsley on November 1, 2020. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Judge Hilary Manley scheduled a further hearing ahead of the trial, to take place on July 6.

The prosecution was represented by Peter Wright KC, and the defence by Chris Daw KC. The trial is scheduled to begin on July 31.

And now, as the actors join the picket lines against Hollywood film and TV companies, the realm of promotion for upcoming projects is getting a lot narrower. According to SAG-AFTRA guidelines, stars aren’t allowed to appear on daytime shows like “Good Morning America” or “Today,” attend premieres, participate in interviews for completed work or even post about projects on social media while the strike is in effect. Talent is also unable to go to conventions such as San Diego Comic-Con, which is held at the end of July.
