The death of the Queen has saddened the whole nation, and tributes have poured in from around the world. Her Majesty died today, aged 96, surrounded by her family at her beloved Balmoral in Scotland.
Her death occurred just days after she invited Liz Truss to become the 15th prime minister of her long reign. The Queen came to Greater Manchester many times.
She opened the Free Trade Hall in November 1951, just months before the death of her father. She declared the Commonwealth Games open in 2002.
And she visited most recently last July, when she dropped in to the Rovers on the set of Coronation Street. This summer, the country celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service since she succeeded her father, King George VI, to the throne.
