The Mirror reports that this lesson was "don't mess with your grandmother", which William revealed in an interview with ABC in the months after the wedding.The Prince of Wales said at the time: "What I really wanted to wear was the Irish Guards frock coat.
We had a couple of discussions on this matter but, as I learnt growing up, you don’t mess with your grandmother. What she says goes."The Queen had insisted that he wore the red tunic of the Irish Guards on his wedding day, as he had been appointed colonel in the months running up to the event.
Some royal traditions were allowed to be broken for the couple's wedding. For example, they had a maid of honour and a best man, and they were allowed to write their own guest list.William said in 2012: "Things were rapidly building up steam towards the wedding.
